project description

Daniel James Construction Services were contacted by a private customer in need of a solution to a leaking chimney stack. We carried out a free survey of the chimney stack and were able to identify multiple potential sources of water ingress.

Years of exposure to the elements had resulted in cracked flaunching, missing mortar joints and brick spalling on the top courses of the chimney stack. Any of these symptoms could have lead to water ingress an structural issues longer term if not addressed. In addition, our surveyor discovered that the joint of the lead back gutter and the chimney stack was missing any kind of sealant.

Our directly employed chimney specialists were engaged to remove and renew the affected chimney brick courses and point the chimney back gutter joint with lead sealant to form a flexible and watertight seal.

Finally, our team installed cowls on the disused chimney flues to prevent rainwater entring the disused chimney stack. Our routine after care call confirmed that the works had resolved the chimney leak.
